In search for the skill to one day create my own Halo story, I wanted to learn how to animate vehicles as well in the universe. ThankfulLy, I was able to find an up-to-date model of the Halo Warthog in Forza's Horizon franchise, which I would use for this video.
This required me to learn about rigging. I ended up having to edit the model into individual pieces to get every detail in the animation such as, suspension and wheel turning. More importantly, this all needed to be cohesive and readable to anyone who needed to use it. I approached that by making the steering wheel the parent. Therefore the TUrns would work like it would in the games.
For the animation, I took the advice of an animator in Bioware and used a line path to dictate the warthog's driving. While also creating a bit of drag on the turns to give it a more believable drifting pattern.
